Why our latest project for Gambleaware provides a glimpse into the future for Polimapper.
We’re excited to bring you news of a recent client project launch with GambleAware that features a new and innovative way of presenting constituency and local authority data on the Polimapper platform.
For full details and links to examples, read on.
Project background
GambleAware produces an annual treatment and support survey which produces data at local authority and parliamentary constituency level.
Prior to working with Polimapper, GambleAware had produced a set of bespoke local area infographics for each local authority and constituency.
When using Polimapper they wanted to combine the best features of the infographic approach with Polimapper’s interactive mapping platform.
The solution was to produce interactive infographics for each local area.
Building the page required a new approach to Polimapper projects, which involved both graphic design and web development teams.
We started by wire framing the page and agreeing on what content to include.
Once agreed, it was time for our graphic design team to create a static mock-up of the page, incorporating GambleAware branding and imagery.
Unlike a standard Polimapper page which is flexible and can be edited through a content management system, the design for this page needed to be locked down before passing it over to the web dev team; so feedback rounds were incorporated at the graphic design stage.
When the design was signed off, it was time for web dev to take over – this was the exciting bit where the data plugged in and we could see how the page would look for different constituencies and local authorities.
Animation was added to the imagery and graphs to provide extra visual interest to the finished product.
A glimpse into our roadmap
The Gambleaware project highlights the importance of visual storytelling, and it’s something we’re intending to build into Polimapper moving forward.
Currently projects that require this more visual approach would need to follow the process above involving graphic design and web development teams.
But the ability to produce more flexible and beautiful local area pages is something that’s coming to all clients.
That’s because we’re about to embark on a major upgrade to our content management system over the coming months, which will give you more choice over the layout of the pages you build and enable the addition of more graphics and imagery.
Exciting times are ahead. Watch this space!
